50 Things we know now that we didn't know this time last year
My buddy Jimmy sent this to me and I couldn’t believe how interesting it was. His favorite, #9, which states: “Babies pick up their parents' accents from the womb, and infants are born crying in their native dialect. Researchers found that French newborns cry in a rising French accent, and German babies cry with a characteristic falling inflection.”
...may explain why our buddy Mat—the son of two Poles who has spent nearly his whole life in the US—has an accent but his younger sister does not. It would stand to reason that by the time Julia was born, more English was being spoken in the house for Mat’s benefit. Incredible! Jimmy also mused that #1, which states: “Domestic pigs can quickly learn how mirrors work and use them to find food.” ...may change the way we look at animals and their intelligence. My response was, “If pigs didn't want to get eaten, they should have thought of that before they became so delicious.”
